The last few days I’ve been riding in the back of a little pickup truck on the way home from building showers at a makeshift hospital. While sitting back there I sit my camera on my knee and randomly take photos out the back of the truck. Lots were absurd, but a few worked out fairly okay. Okay for not aiming, or planning, ya know? Plus a couple others I had on the camera. Anyways, if you’re keen for some street shots of Léogâne then you’re in the right place. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try and get some shots of the kids who helped me work today. Well they didn’t help so much as they frisbeed a plastic lid around, but whatever. Read the rest of this entry »

In order to get on to Vancouver Island from the mainland of British Columbia you pretty much have two choices: plane or ferry. My favourite is definitely the ferry. The BC Ferries are remarkable in that they can carry 1650 passengers, and up to 370 vehicles between the British Columbia mainland and Vancouver Island. They’re the largest double ended ferries in the world. Plus they serve a damn tasty veggie burger on board. The most common route is from just outside Vancouver over to the capitol of British Columbia, which is Victoria. It’s an hour and a half voyage which winds through several small islands in the Pacific Ocean and is really quite scenic.
The sore point for me is watching this great scenery sail past while I have no photography skills at all. So a few days ago, I stood on the deck of the seventh floor, right up at the bow and tried my best to get a good photo. With it being a chilly February afternoon, high up on the bow of a fast moving ship, it wasn’t exactly crowded. I have a very tough time taking photos; I don’t feel comfortable taking them, plus I don’t have much of an eye for it. So excuses aside, here are a few that I got which seem fairly nice to me. Let me know what you think! Read the rest of this entry »

In 2008 I did a hasty little tour of Central America. Starting in Belize, then through Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and then after 2 months I flew out of Panama. Today I uploaded my photo album from that trip to Picasa. Many of these photos were taken by friends I made while there — actually, mostly by Charles who is a photography machine. The pic links through to the album.

I was going through some old photos from previous trips in order to get motivated for my upcoming trip. I’m rather fond of a couple of them, and figured I may as well share some here. I took this one in Kathmandu in December 1995. Back when cameras had film and blogs were a notebook in your pocket. Please forgive the quality, this is a scan of a photo that sat in a box for years. Kathmandu seems like eons ago now. Well, I had better go eat some fiber and glare at teenagers.
